Projects

Our current major project is  researching and writing a local history "Yesterday's Children". The book covers the period 1900 - 1980.

The book is based on verbal history through interviews with people having an historical experience in the area, documentary research of primary source material and access to photographic records and maps. A substantial number of people are engaged in the project which has received generous external funding.

A preview of the book contenst was given at the May 2011 meeting and the book is due for publication in late  2011.

As a Society, we have initiated or been involved in:

• ‘Buried under Bidford’ – an archaeological venture with Warwickshire County Council investigating and discovering more of Bidford’s Roman past through field-walking, research and discussion
• research into Bidford’s 1861 Census throwing light on the inhabitants, their origins, occupations and pubs!
• developing and documenting through former staff and pupils a history of Bidford’s first state primary, and now-closed secondary, schools

When the current publication progarmme is completed we will continue to look for fresh opportunities to discover, research and capture more of the history of Bidford and its surrounding villages.
